The Third UkraineDigiTrans Workshop in Finland: Exchange of Experience and Innovative Approaches in Digital Education

From October 5–10, 2025, the third workshop of the international project UkraineDigiTrans: “Digital Transformation of Medical Education in Ukraine” took place on the campus of Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Vantaa, Finland. The event brought together teams from Ukrainian universities as well as partners from Finnish and other European higher education institutions. This diversity of participants created a unique platform for sharing experiences and engaging in meaningful discussions.

Throughout the week, participants actively worked on developing practical tools for the digitalization of the educational process, discussing the challenges and opportunities of integrating new technologies into curricula and academic disciplines. Particular attention was given to the Learning Design concept (Laurea LD model), modern approaches to learning outcomes assessment and peer assessment, as well as the psychological well-being of educators and strategies for building their professional resilience.

A special segment of the workshop focused on media production and the use of AI in education. Participants learned how to create and edit educational videos, applying modern tools to optimize the process. Practical aspects of integrating artificial intelligence into educational scenarios were explored, including ethical and security considerations and ways to implement these technologies across different disciplines. Finnish partners demonstrated how AI can help personalize the learning process, making it more efficient and engaging.

An important highlight for all participants was the visit to the simulation hospital at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. There, they were introduced to advanced European practices in simulation-based learning, clinical scenario modeling, and development of students’ practical competencies. Participants saw how digital tools can create a safe environment for learning and developing skills directly applicable to professional practice.

Throughout the workshop, there were active discussions on international approaches to integrating digital technologies into curricula and teaching methodologies. Practical assignments focused on identifying ways to enhance teachers’ digital literacy, support students in distance and blended learning, and use AI for automated assessment and creation of interactive learning materials.

The workshop also served as a platform for building new partnerships between Ukrainian and European universities, promoting experience exchange, and developing joint approaches to digital transformation in education. Participants discussed prospects for future collaborative projects and the implementation of modern technologies in the learning process, aimed at strengthening international cooperation and increasing the competitiveness of Ukrainian higher education institutions.

The knowledge and approaches gained during the workshop will be integrated by the participating universities into their teacher training programs. This will help enhance educators’ digital competencies, promote the use of interactive and multimedia tools, foster effective and motivating learning environments, and contribute to the ongoing transformation of the educational process in Ukrainian universities.
